Mame's Lakeside Adventure

Hi friends welcome to Once Upon A Time. I usually can be found over at Sweet Tea N' Salty Air conjuring up a craft, repurposing or decorating. But welcome to my world of story telling so find a cozy seat and a beverage and let me tell you a story...........

It was a cloudy rainy miserable gloomy day but this would be the first day that Mame a recent widow would be starting her new life that had absolutely no exact direction. Mame was a late 50's now  very shy woman that absolutely  in need of an adventure. Giving her laid back life style this was not going to be easy.  Once a stable loving married life that ended in the accidental death of her loving husband , the only man Mame ever loved or the only man whom she had ever been with in her life. She had built her whole life solely around him.

The house that Mame and Zach had worked for  had sold right after Zachary's death . Perhaps Mame was hasty selling the house so soon after his death seeing that she was not thinking so well. Mame had to get out of Haddam everyone knew her and Zach and she needed a new start without all the memories that would keep her comatose to life.

The last box was squished into the moving truck that would be headed to East Hampton a wonderful town that Mame had inherited her Uncle Jakes cottage that was right on the lake. This cottage could render the perfect setting for a middle age widow to satisfy her need to grieving. Mame was set out to be alone for the rest of her life because life without Zach wasn't really going to be worth living. Mame reached into the mail box one last time only to pull out even more sympathy cards only to remind her how stable her life had been. Could she actually live her life or would it be just a matter of surviving?

Mame started working as a nurse in her early 20's then soon after met Zach and married although children had never entered their lives Mame couldn't help to take one last look at the house she once loved, she smiled a bit but knew it was time to start a new chapter in her widowed retired life. Away she drove in her truck, she wrapped her scarf around her red curly hair and buttoned her jacket up, it was late January and a strong freeze had licked the town.

"All I want to do is get to the Lake house and get situated not run into anyone who will be saying I am so sorry for your loss.", Mame complained. The roads were slick and night was falling along with flurries. The lake house had been empty for 8 years with only a caretaker who stopped in occasionally to check the place out. The cottage was 10 plus rooms that once housed the entire Clampton family for every Clampton family holiday. The cottage could hold the key to a new chapter of Mames life. Life was always good on the lake with so many great family memories. Now Mame should make new memories maybe get a dog ? Family had become scarce most had passed away or moved on to distant places.
